Big Red. Coming Soon...

The next generation of quality multifamily housing will not be driven by volume, but by intention. Not by fragmentation, but by integration. Big Red was conceived to elevate density responsibly, reconnect residents with nature, and redefine what it truly means to live well.

The Solution.

The Concept.

The simple box was carved open, creating a central courtyard that brings light, air, and garden life into the heart of the building. Single-loaded walkways face inward, giving every home natural ventilation, outdoor connection, and a daily experience of community. Retail at the base anchors the street, while above, the building breathes. Density is shaped by light, void, and human scale.

Features.

Light. Air. Life.

We design and build homes that place people at the center, flooded with natural light, naturally ventilated, and crafted with healthy, low-toxicity finishes that support clean indoor air and everyday well-being. Balconies extend each residence into the open air, while filtered water, high-performance glazing, acoustic comfort, and thoughtful storage elevate daily living into something intentional and calm.

Built in mass timber and sourced regional materials, our buildings operate all-electric and solar-ready, utilizing passive design, rainwater strategies, and drought-tolerant landscaping to reduce environmental impact. This is human-scaled housing shaped by light, void, and place. Homes designed to breathe with Charlotte’s climate and to age with integrity.

EXPOSED TIMBER

Exposed mass timber expresses structure honestly while bringing warmth, texture, and biogenic carbon storage into everyday living. The building’s bones are visible, tactile, and rooted in regional material identity.

VD_Open Circulation.png

OPEN AIR CIRCULATION

Exterior walkways and breezeways respond to Charlotte’s high-humidity subtropical climate by harnessing airflow as a natural cooling resource. By eliminating sealed corridors, circulation becomes a breathable social threshold, encouraging ventilation, daylight, and casual neighborly interaction.

GARDENS AND COURTYARD

A central courtyard anchors the building as a shared space filled with light and fresh air. Layered gardens create a natural transition from public to private, fostering both meaningful connection and a sense of retreat.

VD_Daylighting.png

DAYLIGHTING

Homes are shaped around sunlight, not artificial illumination. Deep windows, dual orientations, and intentional massing ensure light is a daily ritual and a natural amenity.

VD_Native Landscaping.png

NATIVE LANDSCAPING

Landscape design prioritizes Charlotte-native plant species that reduce irrigation demand and strengthen ecological biodiversity. The building grows from its region rather than being imposed upon it.

RENEWABLE MATERIALS

Primary materials are sourced regionally wherever possible, prioritizing timber and low-carbon assemblies. Materiality reflects both environmental responsibility and sensory richness.

VD_Solar Panels.png

SOLAR PANELS

Rooftop solar panels offset operational energy demand and reduces long-term utility costs for residents. Clean energy is integrated seamlessly into the architecture rather than applied as an afterthought.

VD_Energy Efficient Appliances.png

ENERGY-EFFICIENT APPLIANCES

By lowering operational costs for residents and decreasing long-term environmental impact, efficiency becomes both a financial and ecological benefit built into everyday living.

WATER STORAGE TANKS

On-site rainwater collection systems harness Charlotte’s subtropical climate and seasonal heavy rainfalls to support irrigation and reduce stormwater runoff. Water is treated as a regional asset, captured, reused, and integrated into the life cycle of the site.
